The Dalmatian

The Dalmatian is a medium sized dog, noted for its unique black or liver spotted coat and was mainly used as a carriage in its early days. Its roots trace back to Croatia and its historical region of Dalmatia. Dalmatians are capable of great endurance and speed having been originally bred to gallop alongside carriages and also as a guard. Being an energetic breed they do require a decent amount of exercise to keep them in tip top condition and also for their wellbeing. Dalmatians are generally a fun-loving, intelligent breed with lots of character. They fit well into an active family environment and are ideal companions for runners, hikers and those involved in mountain biking.  Although excellent house dogs, they do tend to have a boisterous nature and, especially during the puppy stage, can easily knock over young children. Just a point to be aware of.
